BRS MLA Gangula Kamalakar addressing the media after giving a representation to the Municipal Commissioner in Karimnagar on Monday.
Karimnagar: Local MLA Gangula Kamalakar on Monday alleged that developmental works across Telangana have come to a standstill ever since the Congress government came to power, with Karimnagar town being no exception.
Citing the state of civic infrastructure, Kamalakar said as many as 65 road works in Karimnagar had been left incomplete over the last 18 months. “Some works were stalled in the initial stage, while others were abandoned midway. Repeated representations to ministers and officials have yielded no response,” he said.
The MLA, along with former corporators, submitted a representation to Municipal Commissioner Praful Desai urging immediate action.
Highlighting the neglect of public amenities, Kamalakar pointed out that the iconic cable-stayed bridge in the town remained cloaked in darkness as the lighting system was non-functional. Several traffic islands, too, were left without lighting, he added.
“Karimnagar was developed into a model town during the BRS regime. All earthen roads were converted into metal ones, and the town once stood at the forefront of development under the leadership of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. That glory is now lost under the Congress government,” he remarked.
Asserting that agitation was not new to the BRS, Kamalakar warned that the party would launch a wage agitation if the State government failed to address the town’s civic issues.
