Sangareddy: The reckless burning of waste by sanitation staff in Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and municipal sanitation workers in the colonies around the township was resulting in frequent fire accidents. During the last one week, fire tenders were rushed to douse the fire twice as it spread into a few acres minutes after the sanitation workers burnt the waste. Since there was a huge amount of dry leaves under the trees across the township, which has considerable green cover, the burning of waste is quickly resulting in fire accidents.
On April 18, the fire spread into a couple of acres of land along the MIG Colony road. When the fire reached close to a transformer, the locals called the fire department, which doused the fire. A similar fire accident occurred close to the vegetable market on Wednesday when a large number of citizens and vendors were at the place. However, the fire tender doused the fire and controlled it from spreading towards the market. Due to lack of awareness, sanitation workers were burning waste even during the summer, though it has resulted in fire accidents. Since there were residential quarters and the BHEL company in the township, any fire accident during the night will result in a major disaster unless the township management stops the burning of waste and clears dry foliage, twigs and dead plant matter.
