Warangal Urban: Stating that the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) will start purchasing cotton crop from October 29, Ministers Errabelli Dayakar Rao and Satyavathi Rathod on Wednesday urged the farmers to bring their cotton produce with low moisture content as prescribed to the procurement centres. They also said that paddy would be purchased from November 1 in erstwhile Warangal district.
The Ministers along with Rythu Bandhu Samithi president and MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy conducted a review meeting on the procurement of cotton and paddy for this Vaanakalam season in Warangal Urban and Rural districts.
“The State government will purchase paddy till the last grain. In view of this, the farmers should not worry about procurement,” Dayakar Rao said, adding that farmers must bring the paddy with no ‘taalu’ (chaffy grain). He directed the officials to work in tandem to ensure that there would be no issues at the procurement centres. He asked the rice millers not to cut the weight in the name of ‘tarugu’ (deduction). “The rice millers should cooperate with the government make the paddy procurement a hassle-free affair and ensure good price for the farmers for their produce,” he added. The officials were also asked to appoint an official along with a police constable at each procurement centre to make the procurement process hassle-free without any problems.
According to the officials, cotton was sown in 82,842 acres in Warangal Urban district and the expected yield is 79,114 metric tons (MT). The procurement will be done through 28 centres. Meanwhile, farmers in Warangal Rural district cultivated cotton in 2,03,794 acres and the expected yield is 1,88,457 MT and the officials are going to set up 11 centres to purchase cotton in Warangal Rural district.
On the other hand, the officials in Warangal Urban district are making efforts to set up 101 paddy procurement centres to purchase 1,94,842 MTs of the paddy (expected) cultivated in 96,455 acres. In Warangal Rural district, 166 paddy procurement centres were proposed to procure about 2,78,658 MTs of paddy cultivated in 1,31,565 acres. MLC Kadiyam Srihari, District Collectors Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu, M Haritha and others attended the meeting.
