Hyderabad: National BC Welfare Association president R Krishnaiah has accused the Centre of failing to to implement its promise made in 2018 to accord top priority to Backward Classes in the country. “The Centre conducts census of animals and trees but why is it neglecting the BC census for over 75 years?” asked Krishnaiah.

Krishnaiah, who was participating in a round table meeting organised by the National BC Welfare Association here on Wednesday, also castigated the BJP government at the Centre for trying to sell Public Sector Undertakings, which he said, was part of a conspiracy to do away with caste reservation.

Backward Caste employees participating in the meeting decided to exert pressure on the Central government to conduct BC census across the country. They also decided to launch a nationwide movement and hold a massive protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. They also demanded reservations for BCs in legislatures, creation of BC Ministry and BC sub-plan at the Centre.

The meeting was chaired by BC Welfare Association National Working president Dasu Suresh. Senior leaders including CPI polit bureau member Narayana, former Congress MP V Hanumantha Rao, former CPI MP Azeez Pasha, TRS leader L Ramana, CPI State Secretary Bala Mallesh participated in the meeting.

Leaders at the meeting opined that Central government was consciously obstructing the BC census as a caste census would reveal statistics of educated people, employees and politicians and it could impact Indian politics. BC leaders decided to approach public representatives of all the parties in the State and MPs to garner support for the movement.
