Hyderabad: US-based Ceremorphic Inc has set up its first development centre in Hyderabad, spread over 35,000 sq ft, which can accommodate 350 people. The company currently employs 140 people, and by the end of 2024, plans to employ 400 people out of its Hyderabad Development Centre.
The company plans to invest $10 million (over Rs 70 crore) every year in its Hyderabad centre and significant investments will also go into chip development over the next two years.
“Ceremorphic founders are pumping in $50 million (over Rs 350 crore) in the global activities of the company. We will also actively look at collaborations globally, including IITs in India. We see scope to work with IIT Hyderabad in the areas of mathematics and algorithm, which will aid in chip research and development. Almost 35 per cent of our staff in Hyderabad is from IIT,” Dr Venkat Mattela, founder & CEO of Ceremorphic, told Telangana Today.
Backed by its strong IP portfolio with over 100 patents and leveraging multi-decade expertise in creating silicon systems, the company has plans to deliver a complete silicon system that will enable next-generation applications such as artificial intelligence (AI) / machine learning (ML), high power computing (HPC), automotive processing, drug discovery, datacenter, and metaverse processing.
Designed in advanced silicon geometry (TSMC 5nm node), this new architecture being pioneered by Ceremorphic has been built from the ground up with an aim to solve high-performance computing problems to serve all high demanding market segments. The team is leveraging its deep expertise and patented technology to design an ultra-low power training supercomputing chip.
Ceremorphic was founded in April 2020 by Dr Venkat Mattela, the founding CEO of Redpine Signals, which sold its wireless assets to Silicon Labs in March 2020 for $308 million.
“Our India development center and the engineering talent it houses will be key to bringing this new architecture to market and driving further innovations in the future,” he added.
Ceremorphic is working towards designing a supercomputing chip with higher reliability and energy efficiency in TSMC 5nm node. The company targets to commercially launch its product by 2024.
“Supercomputing chips are inevitable to manage massive data. Conventional chips cannot solve the problem. Telangana has been focusing on artificial intelligence and advanced computing capabilities. Venkat and his team were actively involved in supporting the State’s initiatives related to semiconductor technology for many years. Ceremorphic will also boost the VLSI ecosystem here,” said Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary, Industries & Commerce and Information Technology Departments, Telangana.
