Hyderabad: The Telangana State Disaster Management Authority (TSDMA) has been revamped to strengthen the State’s preparedness against natural disasters. Under the new structure, the Chief Minister will serve as the chairman, with key Ministers and top bureaucrats forming the core committee.
Special nodal officers will be appointed across departments such as irrigation, electricity, health and police for improved coordination.
At a high-level meeting with district collectors of the Krishna and Godavari basins, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy directed officials to develop a robust and scientific disaster response system, which could serve as a national model.
The officials were asked to identify flood-prone villages and develop real-time information systems in coordination with the India Meteorological Department.
The Minister also stressed the need for permanent housing solutions for residents of flood-affected areas and for upgrading airlift rescue infrastructure to avoid a recurrence of last year’s failed rescue in Palair.
