Hyderabad: As the Congress government nears the completion of its two-year term, several key infrastructure projects, including major road and flyover works, remain far from completion despite repeated assurances from Ministers.
Soon after assuming power, the government had promised to expedite the Uppal–Narapally elevated corridor. However, delays in execution have caused severe inconvenience to motorists, with frequent minor accidents reported along the stretch.
In August 2024, Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy assured that the elevated corridor would be completed within 20 months. After missing that deadline, he announced in July this year that the works would be finished mostly by Dasara.
All these assurances came after the Minister claimed that the Union government was extending full support to the State in completing the project as scheduled.
The foundation stone for the Uppal elevated corridor was laid in 2018 by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. While the Union government is funding the corridor construction, the State is responsible for land and property acquisition, much of which had been handled by the previous government.
Though officials had initially targeted a two-year completion period, the NHAI could complete only 40 per cent of the work in seven years. In contrast, the Amberpet flyover, which was also launched in 2018, was completed on schedule. The 6.25 km Uppal corridor, however, continues to progress at a snail’s pace.
Similarly, the Roads and Buildings department had earlier promised to complete the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) at Sanathnagar before June 2025, expecting it to be inaugurated on Telangana Formation Day. But in January this year, the department reset the timeline, announcing that the TIMS facilities at Sanathnagar, LB Nagar and Alwal would now be ready by December 2025.
Following criticism from former Health Minister T Harish Rao over the delays, the department issued revised schedules. Komatireddy Venkat Reddy later stated that the Sanathnagar TIMS would be ready for launch this October, Alwal by next March, and LB Nagar by next June.
The Minister also promised that NIMS Hospital’s ongoing works would be completed by next December, while the Warangal Super Speciality Hospital would be ready by this December-end.
However, with contractors protesting and the government reportedly delaying clearance of pending bills, doubts persist over whether even these revised deadlines will be met.
