Hyderabad: A year after the Congress government announced its job calendar in the Assembly, not a single recruitment notification has been issued, sparking widespread anger among unemployed youth in Telangana.
On August 2 last year, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka unveiled a job calendar in the Assembly, promising 20 notifications between September 2024 and June 2025 for various posts including Group I, II, III, departments like Health, TGSPDCL and TGNPDCL. However, the promise has remained on paper, with the Congress government citing multiple reasons for the delay.
On Saturday, in a symbolic protest, job aspirants at the Chikkadpally Central Library garlanded a poster of the job calendar, marking its first anniversary. Sharing the image, BRS spokesperson Manne Krishank posted on X: “Job aspirants at Chikkadpally Library pay homage to Congress government’s job calendar on its first anniversary.”
This is not the first time the Congress government has come under fire for letting down job seekers. In its 2023 election manifesto, the party had pledged to fill one lakh vacancies within a year of coming to power. Now, with 18 months gone, there is little to show on that front.
Interestingly, while the Congress government claims to have filled 65,000 posts so far, most of these notifications and exams were issued and conducted by the previous BRS government, casting doubt on the Congress’ achievement.
Facing rising anger on the ground, Congress leaders have been at the receiving end of public backlash. On July 22, MLC Addanki Dayakar was confronted by job aspirants at Chikkadpally Library who demanded the immediate release of the promised job calendar and initiation of fresh recruitments.
Sensing growing unrest, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy recently tried to contain the situation by announcing that one lakh jobs would be provided before the Congress completes two and a half years in office, by June 2026. The announcement, made at a public meeting in Tungaturthy, however, failed to cut ice with job aspirants who say they’ve heard enough.
