Hyderabad: Reiterating the Congress party’s commitment to providing 42 per cent reservations for BCs in local body elections, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav on Monday urged all Congress and BJP MPs from Telangana to resign from their posts to press for approval of the BC reservation Bill.

“If the BJP is committed to BC reservations, then all the eight MPs from the State should resign. Let us all resign and exert pressure on the Centre for including the BC reservations in the Ninth Schedule,” Yadav said at a press conference here.

He warned that BCs, particularly those in Hyderabad, would not tolerate any betrayal. “In the Jubilee Hills by-election, the BCs will teach a befitting lesson to the saffron party. People have already decided to elect Congress candidate V Naveen Yadav,” he asserted.

A similar demand was made by former MP V Hanumanth Rao on Saturday. Addressing the media, he urged all political parties to ensure the BC reservation Bills were included in the Ninth Schedule. “BJP MPs and leaders should prevail upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ensure the reservations are implemented,” Hanumanth Rao had said, adding that the government should convene an all-party meeting on the issue.

However, Rajya Sabha MP R Krishnaiah countered the Congress MP’s remarks, pointing out that the BJP had made a BC leader the Prime Minister. He urged the Congress to avoid indulging in “mudslinging politics”.

“When eight MPs resign, by-elections will be conducted but BC reservations will not be implemented,” Krishnaiah remarked. He suggested that the Congress and the INDIA alliance should take up the issue seriously in Parliament.
