Constable arrested for stealing recovered phone in Mehdipatnam
A constable driver at Mehdipatnam police station, Shravan Kumar, was arrested for stealing a mobile phone worth Rs 1.75 lakh that had been recovered from a thief. The theft came to light when the phone’s owner arrived to collect it, only to find it missing.
Hyderabad: In yet another case highlighting dishonesty amongst the police, a constable driver was arrested by the Mehdipatnam police for allegedly stealing a phone recovered from a thief.
According to sources, the policeman, who is identified as Shravan Kumar, worked as a driver at the Mehdipatnam police station. A few days ago, a person had approached the police and lodged a complaint that his mobile phone valued at around Rs 1.75 lakh was knocked away by some thieves at Mehdipatnam Rythu Bazaar located beside the Mehdipatnam police station.
After verifying the closed circuit camera (CCTV) footage, the police managed to nab the thief and recovered the mobile phone from him. The policeman, who was aware of the recovery of the phone, took away the gadget from the drawer of a table in the police station.
After the owner approached the police to collect his phone, the police officials checked for the phone and found it missing. The police then conducted an inquiry. During investigation it was revealed the policeman had stolen the phone. A case was registered and the policeman was arrested and remanded.
A few days ago, the Filmnagar police had arrested a police constable for stealing an imitation Rolex watch during a search operation in the house. A sub inspector working at the Amberpet police station was placed under suspension for misappropriating gold ornaments recovered in a theft case.
Kulsumpura SHO suspended
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, VC Sajjanar, placed the Station House Officer of Kulsumpura police station under suspension on Sunday.
According to sources, the Inspector was favouring a party in a case and following complaints, the higher officials conducted an inquiry and submitted a report to the Hyderabad CP. Based on the inquiry report, the Hyderabad Commissioner VC Sajjanar placed the Kulsumpura SHO under suspension.
