Karimnagar Dairy chairman Ch Rajeshwara Rao along with other dairy staff celebrating the World Milk Day at dairy premises on Tuesday.
Karimnagar: Ch Rajeshwara Rao, chairman of Karimnagar Dairy, has called upon all sections of society to consume milk and milk products to increase their immunity and also help the farming community relying on the dairy units.
The Karimnagar Dairy celebrated the World Milk Day on Tuesday, to bring attention to how dairy supports the livelihoods of the farmers. The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations has been observing June 1 as World Milk Day for the last two decades to recognise the importance of milk as a global food.
In the wake of Covid pandemic and lockdown, the celebrations were confined to low-key affair in the Karimnagar Dairy premises. The statue of Indian Milkman Dr Verghese Kurien was garlanded and rich tributes were paid by the Dairy chairman Ch Rajeshwara Rao, Managing director P Shankar Reddy, Advisor V Hanumantha Reddy, director M Prabhakar Rao and others.
On this occasion, Rajeshwara Rao said that the milk was the global food and consumed by people of all age groups and it contains valuable nutrients including vitamins and offers a wide range of health benefits. “The milk is a good immunity booster to check the spread of the deadly virus”, he pointed out.
As part of Corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, the dairy was supplying buttermilk packets to the traffic police during this summer season and also helping the NGOs and others providing food to the Covid positive patients and others by supplying them with necessary quantities of curd.
Around 75,000 farmers are contributing milk to the Karimnagar Dairy and the Dairy is also supporting them by making monthly payments of Rs 15 crore. Rajeshwar Rao added that the Karimnagar Dairy was striving hard for helping in the growth of rural economy in the integrated Karimnagar district.
The farmers who cultivate various crops secure income only after harvesting their produce. Whereas, the dairy farmers were securing income every fortnight for selling milk to the dairy, he said and added that the Karimnagar Dairy was alone providing several welfare schemes to the dairy farmers and their milching animals.
In order to further benefit the farming community, the Karimnagar Dairy is on an expansion mode by setting up a mega dairy project at Nallagonda village in Thimmapur mandal in Karimnagar district. The Dairy is also taking all measures to increase the milk procurement and help the farmers to take up dairy units as alternate source of income along with the cultivation of various crops, the chairman stated.
