A couple in the United States tied the knot at a closed section of the US-Canada border so the bride’s Canadian family could attend the ceremony.
Karen Mahoney and her husband, Brian Ray, who met over 35 years ago, decided to get married after getting engaged not too long ago.
Although Karen lives in New York State, her family hails from Quebec in Canada. But as the wedding date was nearing, it seemed quite impossible for Karen’s family – her parents and her 96-year-old grandmother to attend the wedding due to the restrictions between the countries amid Covid-19 pandemic.
“She’s my only living grandparent, the only grandparent I’ve ever known, so it was very important for me for her to be there to watch the happiest day of my life,” Karen was quoted as saying by CNN.
“The most important part of the day for us was the promises we told to each other, and we wanted my parents and grandmother to witness that,” she added.
As it was not possible for Karen’s family to attend the wedding, the couple took the wedding to them. But without crossing borders.
As a friend working as a border patrol agent managed to arrange the wedding at the border, the couple said their vows on the Jamieson Line Border Crossing between Burke, New York, and Quebec, Canada. While the couple stood on the New York side in their wedding attire to say the vows, Karen’s parents watched them from the Canada side.
Well, what do you think of the border wedding idea?
