Hyderabad: Doctors at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Secunderabad have successfully helped a 28-year-old woman, who tested Covid positive and had a pre-existing heart condition, to safely deliver.
The woman was 35-weeks into her pregnancy and was experiencing an elevated heart rate wherein her heart was beating at 186 beats per minute. Doctors immediately put her on ventilation and 3D mapping was used to locate the anomaly in her abnormal heartbeat pattern and was eradicated by radiofrequency ablation, a press release said.
“Spotting abnormal rhythms in a person isn’t all too difficult, but since the woman was pregnant they were all very concerned as the radiation from the procedure can prove to be detrimental to the foetus,” Director Division of Pacing and Electrophysiology, KIMS Hospital, Dr. B. Hygriv Rao said.
Later, senior obstetrician Dr. Vasundhara and her team performed C-section and a premature baby weighing around 2.2kg was delivered. Within the next 24-hours, both the women and her baby recovered well.
