Crimes under control in Nirmal district, says SP Janaki Sharmila
Nirmal district recorded 4,162 crimes in 2025, with police crediting sustained efforts and public support for keeping offences under control. Superintendent of Police Dr G Janaki Sharmila highlighted crime figures, road accidents, cyber fraud cases and the success of the ‘Police Akka’ initiative.

Nirmal: Superintendent of Police Dr G Janaki Sharmila on Tuesday said various crimes in the district were under control due to sustained efforts by the police with active public participation, particularly in curbing online betting and illegal transportation of cattle. She said the district police also gained recognition for the ‘Police Akka’ programme in 2025.
Briefing the annual crime report to the media here, the Superintendent said Nirmal district registered 4,162 crimes in 2025, with Nirmal town police station topping the list by registering 654 cases, while Pembi mandal stood at the bottom with 91 cases.
Detailing the crime figures, she said the cases included 14 murders, 29 house burglaries by day, 166 house burglaries by night, 30 attempts to murder, four robberies, 41 rape cases and 35 kidnapping cases.
She said the district also witnessed 568 road accidents this year, which claimed 154 lives and left 660 persons injured. As many as 7,908 drunk driving cases were registered in 2025. The district recorded 52 cyber crime cases involving diversion of Rs. 3.90 crore, of which the police managed to recover Rs. 30 lakh, while Rs. 51 lakh was expected to be refunded shortly.
Recalling the ‘Police Akka’ initiative introduced this year, Janaki Sharmila said it achieved national recognition by entering the SKOCH Awards. Under this first-of-its-kind initiative in Telangana, conceptualised by the Superintendent, a woman police official adopts a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya school and spends 24 hours with students at least once a month to directly understand their problems and ensure their safety.
She added that cultivation of the banned ganja crop had almost been eradicated in the district. Efforts were also made to reduce road accidents through the Defensive Driving system, while CCTV camera-based surveillance was enhanced, helping the police detect offenders with ease.
