Hyderabad: Development activities at the Yadadri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple, which had shot into focus as the spiritual capital of Telangana, have lost momentum. Many key proposals intended to enhance the sanctity and prestige of the project have taken the back seat. The Congress government has failed to accord the special importance given to the shrine during the BRS regime.
The temple, renovated at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore and reopened in March 2022, has seen little progress in infrastructure development over the last one year. Several proposals aimed at improving facilities for devotees, such as the construction of Kalabhavan or Ranga Mandapam have not seen progress. So is the case with additional amenities in the queue line.
Some of the new proposals are awaiting clearance from the Chief Minister’s Office. The bus station works are still incomplete, causing inconvenience to visitors. A total of 122 shopkeepers are to be rehabilitated, and although the construction of the new shops was initiated, the work has not been completed.
Landscaping and greenery projects are also pending, leaving the area around the shrine less appealing. The ghat road works connecting the shrine to the main town have been affected, adding to the woes of the devotees and visitors. The delays in these critical infrastructure projects are causing concerns among the devotees. They are waiting for the completion of these facilities.
The Yadadri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple will host the Brahmotsavam next month. It has been almost two years since the new temple premises were inaugurated, but the infrastructure facilities for the devotees remain incomplete. Bills worth Rs 70 crore are pending to the implementation agencies, and new works proposed to add facilities are yet to receive approval from the department.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy visited the temple on November 9 and expressed his desire for the temple authorities to take up new projects for the convenience of the devotees. However, the rush of devotees has increased phenomenally, but the facilities and amenities have not kept pace.
The gold covering of the temple’s gopuram, the department is keen on completing the work ahead of the Kumbhabhishekam on February 23. Devotees are hopeful that the government would be able to complete at least the Gopuram works without further delay.
