DRI seizes hydroponic ganja worth Rs 3.05 crore at Hyderabad Airport
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 8.705 kilograms of hydroponic ganja worth Rs 3.05 crore from two passengers arriving from Bangkok at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The contraband was concealed in bottles and food containers. Both accused were arrested under the NDPS Act

Hyderabad: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Hyderabad unit, caught two passengers at RGI Airport Shamshabad, who arrived from Bangkok carrying hydroponic ganja. The DRI seized 8.705 kilograms of ganja valued at Rs 3.05 crores.
Acting on specific intelligence, the officers intercepted two Indian passengers at the airport, and during systematic examination of their check-in baggage, 24 black coloured packets containing a greenish, lumpy substance with a sharp, pungent odour were recovered.
“The packets were concealed inside insulated water bottles, a potato snack tin, and multiple food tin boxes/plastic/cardboard boxes. The recovered substance weighed a total of 8.705 kilograms (gross weight) and tested positive for ganja through the Narcotic Drug Detection Kit,” said an official of DRI.
Accordingly, 8.705 kilograms of high-grade Cannabis (Hydroponic Ganja), valued at approximately Rs 3.05 crores in the illicit market, have been seized and both passengers have been arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Further investigation to identify the source and network is in progress.
