Hyderabad: The elusive leopard that created fear in city suburbs was trapped by the forest officials on Wednesday night at Forest Trek Park, Gandipet.

A senior forest official said two cages were kept in the area and the leopard was trapped last night in one of the cages. “We suspect this is the same leopard that was moving around Manchirevula village and Gandipet,” the official said.

The leopard was first sighted in Telangana State Medicinal Plants Board nursery close to Himayatsagar reservoir a fortnight ago. The locals of Manchirevula village reported sighting of the leopard later. It was then spotted at the Greyhounds campus at Gandipet and the leopard was also spotted on the Taramati Baradari road in Golconda. It created a panic along the Golconda to Gandipet corridor for the last fortnight.

The forest officials visited different places and installed camera traps to track the movement of the feline. On Wednesday night, it landed in the cage at Forest Trek Park.

The officials shifted the animal to Nehru Zoological Park for medical check-up. The leopard will be released in Nallamala Forest in Nagarjunasagar Forest Division.

The forest officials suspect that the leopard moved into the city suburbs from Vikarabad district.
