Kothagudem: Erratic supply of drinking water has been troubling the residents in Kothagudem Municipality and the residents are forced to depend on private water tankers to get water for daily needs.
The municipality supplies drinking water to the residents in the town from Kinnersani reservoir through a distribution pipeline laid around 15 years ago. Since then the water supply has been very irregular, complained the residents.

“The residents in many municipal wards are suffering as there is no supply of water for the past six days. It has become a regular phenomenon”, noted 23rd ward CPI councillor, Y Srinivas Reddy. Speaking to Telangana Today on Wednesday he said despite protests from the councillors and the residents the Municipal Council has failed to address the issue. The municipal engineering officials are also acting negligently in this regard.
He said leakages of pipes, breakdown of motors have been occurring time and time again. But the officials concerned and the Municipal Council failed to find a permanent solution so far and stop the leakages in pipelines that supply drinking water to the town. Every month around five to six lakh rupees are spent on repairs and in a year the amount spent on repairs reaches around three to five crore rupees. The council is not sincere towards the issue and the public money is being misused on repairs.
Authorities and the local MLA should immediately respond to the drinking water crisis with a permanent solution and steps have to be taken to supply water daily, Srinivas Reddy demanded. We are forced to buy water from private water tanker suppliers by spending Rs 800 per tank to get drinking water. As the water is supplied on alternate days it has become difficult to manage if water supply stops for one day, lamented a resident A Suvarna of Ganesh Basti.
“We have three families in our house. One day disruption means we are left without water for two days due to alternate day supply of water, which is supplied for a short time only”, she noted. When contacted, municipal DE, Naveen said the disruption in water supply is due to leakages in pipelines that become old and also due to breakdown of motors sometimes. Efforts are being made to find a solution to the problem, he said.
