Hyderabad: The Special Operations Team of the Cyberabad police busted a black fungus drug black marketing racket allegedly run by Dr.Obul Reddy alias Balarami Reddy, a general physician at the ESI Hospital, Erragadda, and arrested three of his associates here on Thursday. Obul Reddy is absconding, police said. Police seized 45 vials worth Rs 18 lakh from them.

The arrested persons were S. Vikas Reddy (30), a medical shop owner from Chinthal, Ch.Nagaraju (27), a private employee from Quthbullapur and P.Sreedhar (45), a medical shop owner from Suchitra. According to the police, Obul Reddy, a government general physician in the ESI Hospital, fraudulently collected the injections that were to be given to Covid patients in the hospital and sold them to Vikas Reddy.

“Vikas Reddy sold them to Nagaraju and Sreedhar. They were selling the injections at Rs 35,000 to Rs 45,000 to customers,” police said, adding that Sreedhar also prepared an injection of his own, mixing up different drugs and pasted brand labels to duplicate injection vials and sold it to customers.

Following a tip-off, the police team raided Sreedhar’s medical shop and found him selling spurious injections. On further interrogation, the racket was exposed with Obul Reddy, the doctor, as the kingpin. The arrested persons were produced before court while efforts were on to nab Obul Reddy, officials said.
