Excise constable Soumya’s death: CM orders police to take stringent action
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the death of Excise Constable G Soumya and directed police officials to take stringent action against those responsible. Two accused have been arrested, while two remain absconding.

Hyderabad: Expressing sorrow over the death of Excise Constable G Soumya, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy ordered police officials to take stringent action against those responsible for her death. He also assured all help from the government to the bereaved family.
Earlier in the day, Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Sunday announced an ex gratia of Rs 1 crore to Soumya’s family. A government job would be provided to her brother, he said, adding that the government would continue to pay Soumya’s salary for the remaining period of her service, up to the notional date of retirement.
He paid tributes to Soumya at Gandhi Hospital where her body was kept for postmortem. Later, he met her family members and assured them of full support from the State government.
Addressing the media, the Minister appreciated the decision of Excise department officials and staff to contribute one day’s salary to Soumya’s family.
Emphasising that the safety of Excise personnel was the responsibility of the government, Krishna Rao said stringent measures would be taken to prevent such incidents in future. He warned that those attacking Excise officials would be dealt with sternly under the law.
The 24-year-old constable succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at NIMS, Hyderabad on Saturday night. She suffered grievous injuries while trying to nab offenders allegedly involved in illegal ganja transportation from Nirmal to Nizamabad.
She was shifted to NIMS on January 23 for advanced medical treatment and after battling for eight days, she breathed her last on Saturday. Two of the accused have been taken into custody in the case while two others are absconding.
