Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, inspecting teams of the Telangana Medical Council (TMC), caught optometrist R Ramesh operating a full-fledged healthcare facility called ‘Akshara Hospital’ where he was performing eye surgeries and administering antibiotics to patients in Devarakonda, Nalgonda.

Another individual, Ramesh, was operating ‘Padmavathi Hospital’, allegedly posing as an MBBS, MD, General Medicine specialist.

“When questioned by the members of the medical council investigating team, Ramesh claimed to have completed his MBBS in Russia but failed to provide any degree certificates,” the TMC said.

The inspecting teams of the Council also caught four other individuals operating allopathic facilities claiming to offer ‘first-aid’ or ‘limited scope treatment’. They include Rajeshwar Rao, who was allegedly operating the Rajeshwar Rao Clinic at Mall town.

Jahangir, who was practicing as a physiotherapist and operating an allopathy clinic with a fake BPT (Bachelor in Physiotherapy) degree; Padmavathi was operating Srinivas Poly Clinic in Mall Town; and Santosh, who was found prescribing allopathic medicines under the name ‘Maharshi Clinic’, using the prescription pad of an MBBS doctor named Venkat Reddy.

“These individuals were found administering high doses of antibiotic injections, steroid injections, and tablets to patients regardless of their ailment. There is no law that defines or permits ‘limited scope allopathic treatment’ under the guise of a ‘First Aid Center’ or ‘primary treatment center’ without a proper license and qualification,” Dr Gundagani Srinivas, vice chairman of TMC, said.

Dr Srinivas along with Dr Vishnu, who conducted the raids, said that cases will be filed against these individuals under Sections 34 and 54 of the NMC Act, which carries a penalty of one year of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh.
