Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Farmers belonging to different villages staged a sit-in in front of the tahsildar’s office here demanding compensation for crop damage caused by heavy rains that occurred in July and August, in Chintalamanepalli mandal centre on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, the farmers from Dimda, Kethini and Chittam said that they registered huge losses due to the crop damage caused by the heavy rains. They found fault with the officials of the agriculture department for preparing a list of beneficiaries of crop damage of Rs 10,000 per acre, using private persons. They regretted that crops raised in 150 acres were damaged.
The farmers alleged that the officials approved the list of ineligible persons by accepting bribes. They wanted the government to take steps to ensure compensation to genuine beneficiaries. They later submitted a representation to the tahsildar seeking his intervention in the issue and urged him to take steps in getting compensation.
Meanwhile, farmers belonging to Motlaguda, Rampur, Ravulapelli and Rampur villages in Dahegaon mandal staged a dharna alleging that the compensation was extended to ineligible persons. They lamented that they met injustice in getting compensation from the government. They accused officials of colluding with local public representatives in selecting the beneficiaries.
They, however, withdrew the protest when officials assured them of justice.
