Five months on, Hydraa police station remains non-functional
Nearly five months after its inauguration, the Hydraa police station at Buddha Bhavan in Hyderabad remains non-functional. Despite staff being deputed, legal clearances and procedural amendments under BNS 2023 are pending, delaying its operationalisation and raising concerns among complainants
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who is also chairman of Hydraa, inaugurated the police station in a new building adjacent to the Hydraa office in May.
Complainants visiting the Hydraa office noted that the newly opened police station premises remain vacant due to lack of activity, with no official word yet on when the station will become functional.
AV Ranganath, Hydraa Commissioner who is also supervising the police station activities, is waiting for clearance of orders from the State Home Department.
Hydraa began its activities in July 2024 and Ranganath made a proposal in August 2024 to establish an exclusive police station, based on Hydraa’s duties and responsibilities.
The station is meant to register cases against land grabbers, encroachers, those damaging public property, defacement of public properties, and other incidents related to Hydraa’s activities within its jurisdiction.
The Home (Legal) Department accepted the proposal and issued orders on January 7, 2025 through GOMS No:3 for the creation of a new Hydraa Police Station at B Block in Buddha Bhavan.
The GO mentioned the appointment of an officer in the rank of assistant commissioner as Station House Officer (SHO) and other personnel to be appointed on a deputation basis.
Hydraa sources told Telangana Today that certain legal procedures and amendments under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023 would be required to book cases against land grabbers, encroachers, those damaging public property, defacement of public properties, and other related offences.
Sources said that if all goes well, it would take at least another couple of months to operationalise the Hydraa Police Station.
The Hydraa Commissioner has already deputed one assistant commissioner, three inspectors, and administrative staff to run the police station.
