Hyderabad: Expressing concern over deteriorating policing in the State, former Congress MP Madhu Yashki Goud alleged that a few IPS officers were setting aside their responsibility of monitoring law and order and were involving themselves in land settlements.
Speaking during an informal interaction with media persons at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, he said a senior IPS officer was more focused on hitting headlines in the media and interfering in land disputes. The officer was misusing power and subjecting the poor and innocent to harassment, he alleged.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy had clearly instructed police officials to handle and investigate cases strictly as per rules and procedure. However, instead of following established norms, a few officers, under the guise of investigation, were taking people into custody late at night, he said.
“I strongly condemn the conduct of a few IPS officers. Due to their conduct, the Congress government’s image is taking a hit,” Goud charged.
He said the officials should bear in mind that the Congress government had come to power in Telangana and should work accordingly. They could not continue to function as they did during the previous government’s tenure, he stressed.
Referring to the tussle between turncoat MLAs and loyal Congress leaders in a few constituencies, the former MP admitted that it was a serious issue that needed to be addressed.
The matter should be handled by the respective district in-charge Ministers, and there should be proper coordination between leaders, including those who had joined the Congress, he said.
Former Minister Jeevan Reddy was striving for the party’s cause as a loyal leader. He could have joined the BRS long ago but, as a committed Congress leader, he had refrained, Goud said.
However, the former MP cautioned turncoat leaders to mend their ways. “In the guise of striving development, a few MLAs had joined the Congress but any attempts to harass or blackmail the loyal leaders will not be tolerated,” he stressed.
