Khammam: Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar on Tuesday directed the municipal officials to perform free cremation to Covid-19 victims.
The Minister, accompanied by Stambhadri Urban Development Authority Chairman Bachu Vijay Kumar and Municipal Commissioner Anurag Jayanthi visited Ballepally Vaikuntha Dhamam here. Ajay Kumar told the Municipal Commissioner that firewood and other material needed for the cremation of the deceased have to be provided free by Khammam Municipal Corporation and that not a single paisa should be charged from the family members of the deceased.
He inspected the facilities available for cremation at the Vaikunta Dhamam and explained the precautions to be taken while cremating bodies of persons who died of Covid-19.
The Minister wanted the officials to make suitable arrangements so that family members of the deceased would not be troubled. He enquired about the number of cremations taking place at the Vaikunta Dhamam and arrangements made for the purpose.
City Mayor P Neeraja, Deputy Mayor Shaik Fathima Zohara, corporators Kamartapu Murali, Karnati Krishna, Nagandla Koti and municipal staff were also present.
Chirag Foundation donates 15 oxygen concentrators
Chirag Foundation has donated 15 oxygen concentrators worth about Rs 10 lakh for use at government hospitals in the district to support the State government’s efforts to combat Covid effectively.
The NRI Parents Association handed over the equipment to minister Ajay Kumar on behalf of Chirag Foundation at a programme at TTDC Bhavan here on Tuesday. The minister appreciated the foundation office bearers for doing their part to fight against the Covid.
The District Headquarters Hospital, government hospitals at Yellandu, Madhira, Sathupalli, Wyra and Thirumalayapalem have been allotted two oxygen concentrators each while MCH Hospital was given three oxygen concentrators.
MP Nama Nageswar Rao, District Collector, RV Karnan, NRI Parents Association representatives Yalamaddi Venkateshwarlu, Ramesh Babu, D Madhava Rao, P Radhakrishna, T Srikanth and others were present.
