Hyderabad: After enduring scorching temperatures for nearly a week, residents of Hyderabad breathed a sigh of relief as dark clouds, accompanied by thunder and lightning, graced the city since the early hours of Saturday.
The much-awaited rains, which had been elusive for almost five months, finally made their presence felt. According to official weather data, several areas in the city received significant rainfall. Khajaguda recorded 28 mm of rain, closely followed by Gachibowli with 27 mm and Sivarampalle with 22.8 mm.
Other localities including Kishanbagh, Shaikpet, Chandrayangutta, Nampally, Khairatabad, Film Nagar, Himayatnagar, Saroornagar, Dabeerpura, and Banjara Hills also experienced refreshing showers, alleviating the intense heat that had gripped the city.
The Disaster Response Force of the Enforcement, Vigilance, and Disaster Management (EV&DM) wing in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) promptly sprung into action, deploying teams to clear water stagnation and address any potential flood risks in various parts of the city.
The rainfall not only provided relief from the oppressive heat but also led to a noticeable drop in temperatures across Hyderabad. By Saturday noon, the maximum temperatures remained below 35 degrees Celsius, a welcome change from the scorching conditions witnessed in the preceding days.
The highest temperature recorded in the city by 3 pm was 38.8 degrees Celsius at Nagole, significantly lower than Friday’s peak of 43 degrees Celsius.
While some areas like Mallapur, Cherlapalli, Borabanda, Neredmet, and Moula Ali still experienced temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius but below 40 degrees Celsius, the overall cooling effect of the rains was widely felt. The relief extended beyond Hyderabad, as neighbouring districts such as Jangaon, Siddipet, Ranga Reddy, Hanamkonda, Nizamabad, Jogulamba Gadwal, and others also received muchneeded showers.
The TS Development Planning Society has forecast very light to light rains in the State on Sunday. While the maximum temperature in the city is expected to hover between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius, districts like Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mancherial, Jagtial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad may experience temperatures ranging from 43 to 45 degrees Celsius.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletin, the city is expected to witness a generally cloudy sky with the possibility of rain, thunderstorms, or dust storms until April 24.
