Hyderabad: Games of all kinds and shapes are being played and becoming popular in India. Whether it is Battle Ground Mobile India (BGMI), earlier known as PUBG or CandyCrush each type of game has their dedicated fan base and the industry has only grown over the years. The fact that the newly-launched PS5 is getting sold off in seconds is also testament to the growing popularity of not just casual gamers but also serious gamers who use high-end gadgets to play games.
So, in terms of consumers the industry has definitely been on the rise but multiple reports and experts point towards a gnawing gap in terms of supply of skilled talent. From Game Designers to Game Developers and Sound Designer to Artists, the industry is always in need of talented individuals.
Many universities and colleges offer certificate, diploma and degree courses for those interested in learning the nuances of gaming. One can also look at multimedia or animation courses if one is artistically inclined and develop different characters for different gaming companies.
Not just this, if you are addicted to gaming and would like to change the way a game is being played, then one could also try their hand on becoming a gaming critic. These critics play and review a game and earn money through this. One can even make videos on YouTube and livestream them while playing games and earn money.
“The field is multi-disciplinary in nature and it requires artists, designers, developers, coders, engineers and allied skills. To develop a game requires all of the above-mentioned skills along with many on-the-job skills. Many young students and their parents are also seeing the potential in choosing gaming as a career option as they are also seeing the direct impact of it on their mobiles. From young kids to the oldest family member, all are hooked onto games through their mobiles or PCs,” says Rajesh Rao, convenor, India Game Developers Conference (IGDC).
IGDC is India’s premier event for game developers and has announced its 13th edition which will be held from November 16 to 18 virtually. The event is being held in partnership with the Government of Telangana. The event is expected to see attendance from around 10,000 people, 120 plus industry experts, 100 plus e-stalls, 30 publishers, and 30 investors.
