Hyderabad: A five-member committee would examine all objections and suggestions received zone-wise on the delimitation of 300 wards, GHMC commissioner RV Karnan said on Tuesday.
Speaking at a special council meeting at the GHMC head office, he said 3,002 objections and suggestions were received between December 10 to 17. Citizens of notified 300 wards can submit their objections and suggestions on Wednesday.
Karnan revealed that 30 per cent of the submissions were related to boundaries and ward name changes, 15 per cent seeking additional wards and polling stations and 50 per cent pertained to detailed maps of each ward.
A technical committee chaired by the Chief City Planner and include ACPs of town planning, was set up to prepare division-wise maps.
The state government decision to expand the purview had the GHMC area increase from 650 sq km to 2,050 sq km and the population rise from 1.12 crore to 1.34 crore. The delimitation had been carried out by the Centre for Good Governance (CGG).
“As per the central government decision to conduct the population Census for 2026-27, the delimitation process had to be completed by December 31,” Karnan said.
BRS demand council of members voting on delimitation:
Sanath Nagar BRS MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav argued that the existing infrastructure and staff of the GHMC should have been taken into consideration before delimitation. He demanded voting on the delimitation, a physical survey of each ward and the fixing of boundaries.
BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan opposed the delimitation and enquired as to why the state government approached the CGG for the exercise. AIMIM Malakpet MLA Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala said the delimitation was done to hurt the AIMIM.
