Hyderabad: The foundation stone for the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Project (GDWSP) Phase II & III of HMWSSB would be laid on Monday.
The project aims to enhance drinking water supply to Hyderabad and to transfer an additional 20 TMC of water to the city and replenish twin reservoirs with Godavari water to rejuvenate the Musi River, at a cost of Rs 7,360 crore, said a press release.
At present, Hyderabad receives between 580 MGD and 600 MGD of water from all sources to meet its drinking water needs. The plans are to augment this supply by 300 MGD by 2030. Utilising a total of 30 TMC of water from the Godavari River, the plan includes the Godavari Project Phases 2 and 3 to ensure additional water availability.
By 2027, the city’s drinking water demand is expected to increase to 835 MGD, and by 2047, it could reach 1,114 MGD. This project is part of the strategy to address these future demands, said the release.
