Hyderabad: TPCC Chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday said the government could have reduced the impact of the deluge that engulfed the State capital and many other parts of the State due to incessant rains, if it had evacuated people from low-lying areas. He said the government should have alerted the people about the impact of the extremely heavy rains that the State had experienced in over a century.
In a statement here, he called upon the State government to ensure effective coordination of various departments such as municipal, electricity, water works, irrigation and disaster management to provide immediate relief to the affected people. While offering condolences to those who died in the deluge, particularly on Tuesday night, he called upon the Congress ranks to take part in relief operations.
“The government which has grandiose plans of turning Hyderabad into Dallas must answer now. What happened to the Rs 69,000 crore spent on developing the city?” he asked. He also demanded compensation for farmers who lost standing crops due to heavy rains and inundation. He demanded the government to send officials to estimate the damage to crops without delay and announce a package for farmers.
