Hyderabad: Senior BRS MLA and former Minister T Harish Rao demanded for immediate action to safeguard lives of students over repeated incidents of food poisoning incidents in tribal welfare residential schools. He wanted the State government to announce an action plan to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
In a statement, Harish Rao raised concerns over the hospitalisation of 12 students from food poisoning at the tribal welfare schools in Mancherial on Wednesday. In a similar incident recently, around 60 students consumed contaminated food at another tribal welfare school at Wankidi in Kumaram Bheem Asifabad district and are now recovering. “How can the government ignore these alarming incidents within a shortspan?” he questioned.
The former Minister criticised the government’s negligence towards ensuring safety of students’ health. “It is shocking that students face health risks in places meant for their learning and growth. Is it too much to ask for clean, nutritious food?” he asked. He urged the government to prioritise student safety, and enact strict measures to prevent such incidents from happening repeatedly.
