Harish Rao exposes Congress’ inefficiency in stopping Banakacharla project
Warns that BRS will approach Supreme Court to stop the project if the government continues to act irresponsibly; says Uttam Kumar Reddy confined to writing letters on issues rather than fighting them at New Delhi
Former Minister T Harish Rao addressing a press conference in Dubbak of Siddipet district on Friday.
Siddipet: Former Minister T Harish Rao exposed the inefficiency of Congress government in getting right share of water to Telangana and also accused the government of acting negligently while Andhra Pradesh was going ahead with Godavari-Banakacharla, Srisailam right canal lining works and Rayalaseema lift irrigation project.
He said that the Telangana got the least water share in Krishna water this year compared to the previous years after State bifurcation.
Speaking to news reporters in Dubbak on Friday, Rao said that the Congress government kept quiet while Andhra Pradesh took away 400 additional TMCs of water last year. He further said that Telangana utilised 69TMCs of water less than what it was eligible for, leaving the farmers of Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar and Khammam districts seriously affected. He further lashed out at Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy accusing them of favouring the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on various irrigation issues pertaining to both the States.
While the BRS government led by K Chandrashekhar Rao put all out efforts to stop the Rayalaseema Project insisting for apex council meeting, Rao said that Uttam and Revanth were spreading false propaganda on BRS rather than fighting for the water rights of Telangana. The former minister exposed the inefficiency of the Uttam in getting Krishna water share while Andhra Pradesh was taking additional water.
He said that Uttam was not refusing to talk on the Bankacharla project citing his unpreparedness during the press meets while Andhra Pradesh was trying to use a major share of Godavari water through the project.
The former minister questioned why the Congress government was not insisting on organising an apex council meeting on the Banakacharla project. He said that the BRS will approach the Supreme Court to stop Banakacharla if the government continues to act irresponsibly. The former minister said that Uttam was just confined to writing letters on Bankacharla issues rather than fighting the issue at New Delhi.
Demanding the State government to organise an all party meeting on the Banakacharla issue, he said that the government should plan a protest at Jantar Mantar, to highlight the injustice being done to Telangana. Rao said the union government was granting funds to the projectw while the AP was speeding up the works.
The former minister further demanded the Congress government to put efforts to stop Srisailam right canal lining works taken up by the Andhra Pradesh government. Rao also questioned why Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs, union ministers from State were staying quiet on these issues.
