Hyderabad: Former Minister and senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao urged voters in the Jubilee Hills constituency to ensure that the ruling Congress loses its deposit in the upcoming by-election. He said the people of Telangana were angry at the Congress government’s deceptions and diversions from fulfilling its promises, and were ready to teach it a lesson.

Addressing the BRS Greater Hyderabad minority wing meeting at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Harish Rao said the Revanth Reddy government backtracked on every major promise made to the minorities. He reminded the audience that the Congress had promised to implement a minority sub-plan with Rs 4,000 crore, but confined the budget allocation to just Rs 1,000 crore for this financial year.

“Congress promised a hike in honorariums for imams and muezzins, Rs 25 lakh overseas scholarships, and expansion of welfare schemes like Shaadi Mubarak and KCR Kit benefits. But nothing has been delivered,” he said, adding that Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, who showered voters with promises during the campaign, were nowhere to be seen after the elections.

Remembering the previous BRS government’s contributions, the senior legislator said former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao upheld the dignity of minorities through meaningful schemes and representation.

“KCR did not just make promises, but delivered them without even promising. From English-medium education to Ramzan Tohfa and welfare honorariums, BRS walked the talk,” he stated.

He also condemned the demolition of houses in the Old City area in the name of development without releasing compensation. “Revanth Reddy did not build any homes in the last 19 months, but razed many to the ground,” he added.

Harish Rao stated that there was no difference between Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre and Revanth Reddy in the State. “They hail from different political parties, but share the same hatred towards the minorities. Both of them did not give a Cabinet berth to a single MLA from the minority community, but make tall claims of empowering the minorities,” he said.

Former Ministers Mohd Mahmood Ali, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, MLC Dasoju Sravan and other BRS leaders also spoke.
