Participating in a meeting with officials from various departments at Janahitha Bhavan, Collector A Sharat asked authorities to continue to work with the same spirit as last year and meet the target set by the administration.
Sharat asked officials to take necessary steps for protection of saplings after planting them in open places by maintaining sufficient gaps. The staff in the district rural development agency should give at least half a dozen saplings to each house.
He instructed the engineers from Panchayat Raj and Roads and Buildings departments to lay more focus on avenue plantation on seven outer roads in the district covering 300 km. He asked officials concerned to utilize open places in all the government buildings, private and government educational institutions, rice mills, electrical sub-stations, bus stations and anganwadi centres among other areas to plant saplings.
Awareness programmes should be conducted to government employees by June 25 explaining the importance of the Haritha Haram programme, Sharat added.
