Chandigarh: Haryana DGP O P Singh on Monday said the anti-terrorism apparatus in the State’s National Capital Region has been further strengthened, a week after a “white collar” terror module was busted with the recovery of explosives mainly from Faridabad.

He underlined that alert citizens can play an important role in the fight against terrorism by becoming the eyes and ears of the police. The director general of police (DGP) said central intelligence agencies, Delhi Police, and police officers from Uttar Pradesh engaged in anti-terrorism operations attended a meeting held in Faridabad on Sunday.

“We shared information and status updates. When security agencies work together, one plus one equals 11,” he added. “We have further strengthened our anti-terrorism apparatus in the NCR region of Haryana. It will gather intelligence, conduct investigations, and conduct continuous operations against those suspected of terrorist activities,” the DGP said in a post on X in Hindi.

“…But the most effective weapon in the fight against terrorism is – the #alert common citizen. As soon as you spot any suspicious person, activity, or object, call ‘112’ (helpline) or inform the local police. This will deny terrorists a place to hide, and they won’t get a space for their planning and operations, and their plans can be thwarted in time,” he added.

Singh said alert citizens, too, can become the eyes and ears of the police in the fight against terrorism. “For example, before the attack on the World Trade Centre in the United States, Al-Qaeda terrorists were only training for takeoff. If the trainer had noted that they were not interested in landing and informed the local police, their plan would have been prevented,” the DGP said in his post.

He further said that despite Israel’s forces foiling a large number of terrorist attacks. One reason is that its citizens remain vigilant. If anything suspicious appears, they immediately inform the police.

Just a few days ago, an alert hotel employee in Karnal alerted the police about a person booking a room using a suspicious identity card, Singh said. “After an intensive overnight inter-district operation, he was apprehended. After questioning, the matter turned out to be something else, but the vigilant hotel employee had done his job,” he said.

“You too become the eyes and ears of the police against #terrorism. Immediately inform the police on 112 about any suspicious person, activity, or object,” the post further said. Public safety is a never-ending task. “It’s like oxygen. Even a slight decrease can be suffocating,” the DGP said. “Danger lurks from all sides…terrorism is a different level of madness,” he said.

Terrorists target ordinary people and their goal is to spread terror, he said. “To stop them, there is a comprehensive system, from state police to central agencies. It works day and night,” he added.

Hours after police busted the terror module with links to proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind on November 10, a high-intensity blast ripped through a slow-moving car outside Delhi’s Red Fort area, claiming the lives of 13 people.

Around 2,900 kilograms of explosives were seized after police busted the terror module, which spanned across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
