Heavy rains disrupt life in Mancherial, Kumram Bheem Asifabad
Heavy to moderate rains lashed Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts on Tuesday night, submerging low-lying areas, damaging crops, halting traffic, and prompting authorities to declare holidays. Rescue operations are underway, and control rooms assist affected residents

Mancherial/Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts experienced moderate to heavy rainfall on Tuesday night, disrupting normal life and inundating low-lying areas.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society, the average rainfall in Mancherial district was 93.2 mm. Bheemini mandal recorded the highest rainfall of 233 mm, followed by Kannepalli mandal with 203 mm. Thandur, Nennal, Bellampalli, Kasipet, Mancherial, Kotapalli, and Vemanapalli mandals recorded rainfall between 60 mm and 90 mm.
Streams in Bheemini, Kannepalli, and Kotapalli mandals were in spate, submerging standing paddy, cotton, and soya crops. A railway underbridge in Thandur mandal headquarters was inundated, halting traffic, while rainwater entered homes in Boyapalli village of Thandur mandal. Floodwaters also submerged Ramnagar in Bellampalli town, forcing residents to move to safer areas.
Collector Kumar Deepak inspected the rain-hit areas and urged the public to remain cautious. He declared a holiday for educational institutions. Police and locals used a rope to help a pregnant woman cross a flooded stream and reach a primary health centre at Narsapur village in Thandur mandal.
Kumram Bheem Asifabad district recorded an average rainfall of 93.1 mm. Rebbena mandal registered the highest rainfall of 189.6 mm, while Kagaznagar mandal recorded 118 mm. Hilly streams flooded Manikyapur and Romplelli villages, as well as Gundala in Tiryani mandal, cutting them off from surrounding areas. In Asifabad town, rainwater entered Sandeepnagar, causing hardship for residents.
Collector Venkatesh Dothre declared a holiday for educational institutions and Anganwadi centres in view of the heavy rains. He urged people to step out only in emergencies. Rehabilitation measures are underway to rescue those in low-lying areas, and a control room has been set up to assist victims.
