Telugu suspense horror thriller titled ‘Samantha’ was released on Urvasi OTT. Directed by debutant Mukesh Kumar, the movie is a heroine-oriented one.
Mukesh gave up the lucrative profession of IT and returned to India to follow his passion for films. An alumnus of Madras University, he worked for three years in a pharmaceutical company before shifting his career to IT.
“I was attracted to the science behind the camera. Tamil director Mysskin and Ram Gopal Varma are my favourites. I used to wonder how they could tell such a gripping story. So I quit my job in Dubai, returned to Hyderabad and joined script-writing classes under Parachuri Gopalakrishna,” says Mukesh who earlier made ‘Code Red’, an experimental short film without actors and dialogue, shot completely on LG smartphone. “It was nominated for five international film festivals and won Best-Innovative Story Telling award,” the Anantapur-born director adds.
“It’s a hypnotism-based story. One Dr Anand comes to a professor, who is Head of the Department of Psychiatry, with a peculiar case of a woman who happens to see spirits and other paranormal visions. How a birthday party turns into a tragedy for her friends as they get killed in the horror incident and how the woman comes out of the delusion by decoding it the crux of the story,” says the director who can speak 12 different languages.
Siri Khanakan played the title role while Lirin, Ramesh Neel, Charan, Srikanth and Pruthvi are seen in pivotal roles. Lio Films Company has produced the movie while VRA Prasad has composed the music for the film.
