Hyderabad: The members of Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA), comprising senior residents from various tertiary government hospitals in Telangana, on Monday urged the Telangana health university to provide a provision of group health insurance plans for all undergraduate and PG medical students in Telangana.
On Monday, the HRDA members met Vice Chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS), Dr Nanda Kumar Reddy and urged him to take the initiative. In this connection, on behalf of UGs and PG medical students, the HRDA submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor.
“Medical education and training are a rigorous journey, involving constant exposure to high-risk environments in hospitals and laboratories. The inherent risks associated with the profession often go unaddressed, leaving UG and PGs and their families vulnerable. Therefore, the health university must consider and implement a comprehensive health insurance plan,” HRDA in the memorandum said.
During clinical work, the MBBS and PG medical students are at a constant risk of contracting infectious diseases or facing other health complications. A dedicated health insurance plan would ensure that they can receive timely and quality medical care without any financial burden, HRDA said.
Providing an insurance plan will create a more secure and supportive ecosystem for the future of medical professionals in Telangana, HRDA added.
