Hyderabad: A major fire tore through a line of roadside furniture shops in Bachupally on Tuesday night, leaving a trail of destruction and pushing dozens of small traders into distress.
The incident occurred in a cluster of temporary furniture outlets located along the main road. Witnesses said the flames spread swiftly from one shop to another as the structures were built close to each other and stocked with wooden materials and foam furnishings.
Thick smoke engulfed the area, drawing the attention of commuters and nearby residents, who alerted the authorities.
Fire department personnel rushed to the spot with multiple fire tenders. Nearly 10 fire engines were deployed to control the blaze. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours before managing to douse the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining properties.
Police officials said around 50 shops were either completely gutted or severely damaged. Preliminary assessments indicated that furniture and related materials worth nearly Rs 1 crore were destroyed.
Most of the affected traders depended entirely on daily sales, and many were seen trying to salvage whatever little remained from the debris.
No injuries or loss of life were reported, which officials described as a relief considering the scale of the fire.
Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed probe to determine the cause of the incident. Traders have urged the government to extend compensation and rehabilitation support to help them restart their businesses.
