Hyderabad: A former sub-inspector of police was arrested by the Jubilee Hills police on charges of threatening a person with an air gun after collecting Rs.39 lakh from him assuring to settle a land dispute.

The arrested man, Alam Kishan Rao, who stays in the Yousufguda police quarters, had introduced himself as a DIG rank officer to people and assured them to settle land disputes and arrange government jobs.

A few months ago, Kishan Rao met Mohd Abdul, a resident of Krishnanagar in Yousufguda, and took Rs.39 lakh from him on the pretext of settling a land dispute.

“As Kishan Rao failed to resolve the dispute, Abdul demanded the money back. Kishan Rao showed him an air gun and threatened to kill him in an encounter,” the Jubilee Hills police said.

Following a complaint, the police took Kishan Rao into custody and seized two air guns, a toy pistol and illegally stored liquor bottles from him.

Kishan Rao previously worked in the police department and was suspended after getting involved in a land issue. After his suspension, he allegedly started cheating people after collecting money from them on the pretext of government jobs, settling land disputes and arranging houses.
