Hyderabad: The much awaited ‘Numaish’ began on a positive note with around 40,000 people visiting the place since it resumed.

The event which is usually held in January was suspended last month in view of rapid increase in Omicron-driven Covid cases. And the last year, the city gave a miss to the Numaish as the society did not conduct it in view of Covid second wave restrictions.

Since its resumption on Friday, the exhibition ground has been presenting a lively ambience with families who were eagerly waiting for the mega annual fair, thronging in large numbers. “All our relatives from across the city converge at the place and spent quality time here, it is more like a tradition for us. One can’t afford to miss this nostalgic feel,” said Azeem Mohiuddin, a businessman from the old city who came along with his family.

The Numaish holds lively memories for many. “I was introduced to the Numaish by my parents. Every year we came at least once and enjoy the ambience against the backdrop of the popular Bollywood numbers played on the loudspeakers,” recalled Sanjay Chary, a resident of Hussainialam.

Around 1400 stalls were allotted to the traders for setting up businesses. Shops dealing in readymade dresses, home decoration material, toys, plastic ware, handicrafts, cosmetics and electronics have come up. This apart at the entertainment arena a variety of giant ferry wheels and chair swings were set up.

“At least 50 per cent of the stalls are now operational. Remaining traders are sourcing and arranging materials, in next two days all the stalls will be opened,” said Exhibition Society, Secretary, Aditya Margam.

The exhibition society did not increase the price this year. “The ticket is priced at Rs. 30 per person and for children below five years entry is free,” said the secretary.

Traders from Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and other parts of the country are participating and selling their local products.

The Numaish was abruptly suspended early in January following directive of the Hyderabad police in view of the Omicron triggered Covid third wave. However, the police allowed the society to resume the exhibition from February 25. It will continue till March end.

Not only inside, several people set up smaller stalls outside the Numaish grounds and sell local products and food. The authorities have also arranged for free parking around the exhibition grounds.
