Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has approved a revised cost of Rs 304 crore for the Rail over Bridge (RoB) near Serilingampally railway station, with the work set to commence in another couple of months after administrative sanction. The revised cost was cleared at CMC’s 2nd Standing Committee meeting.
The CMC Chief Engineer, Nityanandam, told ‘Telangana Today’ that the RoB was proposed under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) programme and once the revised cost of the project is approved and an administrative sanction is received, works for the project would commence in another couple of months.
Initially, the project cost was estimated at Rs 125 crore, but it was escalated to Rs 304 crore due to the railway authorities changing the design of the RoB.
Over the past several years, daily commuters and IT employees have been experiencing hardships in this narrow tunnel on the Mumbai old highway, with several efforts to streamline the vehicular movement having failed. Every monsoon, waterlogging is a common feature near the Serilingampally underpass, which is a key crossing point for traffic from BHEL townships and nearby colonies, Patancheru, Chandanagar, towards Gachibowli, Madhapur and Financial District.
The upcoming infrastructure will have a four-lane RoB with a two-lane up-ramp from Gulmohar Junction. The project will also include two unidirectional, first-level flyovers between Gachibowli and BHEL with 29 pillars, the official said.
A total of 214 properties, including residential and commercial, would be affected as part of the RoB and once administrative sanction is received from MA&UD, the land acquisition process would be completed, a town planning officer said.
