Hyderabad: A Hyderabad student won the Math Award, created by Neelakantha Bhanu, the world’s fastest human calculator.
Greshin Rakesh got the award for solving over 150 questions correctly within the time limit in the final round. “I was so happy when the results were announced. I knew I had performed well, but I never imagined I would be the champion,” Rakesh said.
The contest saw the participation of over 6,000 students from 750 cities across India, with only over 300 making it to the final round.
The competition, organised by Bhanzu, a global math-learning platform founded by Neelakantha Bhanu, was an event where students competed head-to-head, solving 1.80 lakh questions, with over 45,000 correct answers recorded in the final round alone.
Brain behind the competition, Bhanu, who also won the gold medal for India at the 2020 Mental Calculation World Championship, said champions are not born but they are made through countless hours of practice.
“These young contestants, who are no less than sports athletes, participated from all across India and tackled a staggering over 45,000 math problems,” he added.
