Hyderabad: Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (Hysea) and its member companies like Microsoft, Qualcomm, Franklin Templeton, Cognizant and WellsFargo have come together to sponsor and set up a 150-bed ICU project at Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS), Gachibowli.

As part of their response to the prevailing Covid situation, Hysea along with its member companies and NGO partner Nirmaan identified key government hospitals wherein there is a need for staff, critical lifesaving equipment and medicines. In addition, home isolation kits, livelihood restarter kits, ration and hygiene kits were also distributed to the needy.

Under the Hysea’s Covid response initiative, about 75 existing ICU beds in TIMS and 20 in Fever Hospital were upgraded, in addition to setting 75 new ICU beds in TIMS Gachibowli by mid-July. About 35-plus corporate partners contributed more than Rs 14.5 crore to the mission, the association said in a statement.

The 150-bed ICU project was inaugurated by Minister for IT, Industry and Commerce K T Rama Rao and he said, “The entire IT industry in Hyderabad has stepped up to support the overwhelmed healthcare system and we hope it will have a lasting impact. While government is working towards strengthening the medical infrastructure in the State, the IT industry is also helping in this endeavour through their CSR initiatives.”

Other than TIMS, Hysea has also extended help to Kondapur Dist. Hospital, Sarojini Devi Hospital, Niloufer Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, King Koti, and Fever Hospital. An oxygen plant sponsored by Qualcomm India Private Limited is also being set up in Nizamabad at a cost of Rs 2.5 crore, the Hysea statement said.

IT and Industries principal secretary Jayesh Ranjan, Cyberabad police commissioner V C Sajjanar, Rangareddy magistrate Amoy Kumar and Telangana medical education director K Ramesh Reddy were also present on the occasion.

Hysea president Bharani K Aroll said the key focus for Hysea and its NGO partner Nirmaan has been to augment the ICU capacity both in the city and in districts. “The 150 bed ICU project in TIMS, 20 Bed ICU upgradation project at Fever Hospital, 25 bed Paediatric ICU setup at Niloufer Hospital and the 10 bed ICU Project in the districts is a step in that direction. We hope to create medical infrastructure that will outlast the pandemic,” he said.
