Hyderabad: Hyderabadis can look forward to a high-adrenaline spectacle as the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) daredevil aerobatic team set to light up the city’s skies with breathtaking aerial manoeuvres and precision flying during Wings India 2026 at Begumpet on January 28 and 29.
The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) aka the Daredevils, in their signature red and white Hawk Mk aircraft, will paint a heart in the sky besides performing bomb burst, and arrow manoeuvres.
The spectators can also look forward to Daredevils waving the tricolour in the sky and breath-taking aerobatic manoeuvres such as loops, rolls, crosses and inverted flying.
The Surya Kiran team consists of nine Hawk Mk 132 aircraft flying in extremely close proximity at a distance of merely five metres. The 12-member pilot team recently performed during the Combined Graduation Parade organised by the Air Force Academy at Dundigal here.
Established in 1996, the SKAT holds the coveted title of being the only nine-aircraft aerobatic team in Asia and is one of the elite few teams in the world.
The team performed a large number of displays in the country besides representing the IAF at international air shows in countries such as China, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, and the UAE.
The aircraft flown by the SKAT is the Hawk Mk 132 advanced jet trainer. This aircraft manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is used to impart fighter flying training to the newly commissioned pilots of the IAF.
Last year, the SKAT’s Hawk Mk 132 aircraft underwent a significant indigenous modification i.e., the integration of smoke pods capable of producing coloured smoke.
This advancement developed at IAF base repair depot, Nashik, allows the team to display the colours of the national flag—saffron, white, and green—across the sky during their aerial performances. This enhancement not only adds visual impact to the displays but also serves as a powerful symbol of national pride, celebrating India’s achievements in aerospace engineering and innovation.
