Karimnagar: The district unit of Indian Medical Association (IMA) has appealed to the people to be alert about the second wave of coronavirus and follow Covid-19 norms to protect themselves from the deadly virus.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, IMA district president Dr M Vasanth Rao informed that the second variant of Covid-19 was very dangerous and rampant in the district as well as in the state. Even vaccinated people were also being infected by the second variant.
Since the virus was spreading rapidly, positive patients were facing severe hardships due to lack of beds in Hyderabad, Karimnagar and other places.
Except precautionary measures, nobody would protect the people from coronavirus. So, all sections of the society must follow Covid-19 norms and wear face masks, maintain physical distance and personal hygiene without fail.
Vasanth Rao wanted government officials, public representatives, all district units of IMA and voluntary organizations to educate the people about precautionary measures to be taken to check the spread of the virus.
Dr BN Rao, president elect, said that people, who were under the impression that corona has gone, were moving freely by setting aside Covid-19 norms and without taking precautionary measures.
However, a majority of the people were not aware about the severity of the second variant, which was stronger and more dangerous than that of the first one. Informing that coronavirus has become more stronger by making genetic changes, he said the new variant would prevent the growth of anti-bodies even face vaccine successfully.
When asked about Rs 6,000 being collected for CT chest scanning from coronavirus infected patients by private hospitals, he said Rs 2,000 was the fixed price for CT chest scanning and warned to take legal action against hospitals by lodging complaint with DMHO if any hospital collected excess charges.
BN Rao asked the corona positive or normal people to clarify their doubts by contacting pulmonology doctors on phone number 9553458444. The number will work from 9 am to 9 pm every day.
