Jeddah: Jubilant Indian expatriates celebrated the 77th Republic Day across Saudi Arabia on Monday with gaiety and enthusiasm, turning the occasion into an emotionally charged and deeply personal expression of patriotism.
National pride was on full display as large numbers of Indians gathered at Indian missions to take part in the celebrations. Children presented musical and dance performances, while many expatriates took time off work to attend the events and join the festivities.
In Riyadh, Ambassador Dr Suhel Ahmed Khan unfurled the tricolour at the embassy premises in the presence of enthusiastic community members and addressed the gathering. “I feel it is my prime duty to salute our national flag every January 26,” said Abdul Jabbar from Telangana, who has been a regular attendee for the past few years.
In Jeddah, Consul General Fahad Ahmed Khan Suri unfurled the national flag and paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. As per tradition, both Dr Suhel Ahmed Khan and Fahad Ahmed Khan Suri read out excerpts from the Republic Day address of President Droupadi Murmu.
Indian schools in Dammam, Jubail, Taif and Tabuk, besides Jeddah and Riyadh, also organised flag-hoisting ceremonies. Students presented cultural programmes, performing a medley of patriotic songs and dances, adding colour and fervour to the celebrations.
