Sangareddy: Inmates of the tribal welfare residential school at Bommareddipet in Chowtakur mandal staged a protest on Friday, alleging that rice infested with insects was being served in the hostel.
The students claimed that despite repeatedly bringing the issue to the notice of the warden, no action had been taken. The situation prompted mandal special officer Vasantha Kumari to visit the hostel and inspect the premises.
During the visit, the students opened rice bags and showed the infested grains to the officer, leaving her visibly shocked. They also took her around the hostel premises, pointing out the unhygienic conditions, including unclean toilets and dirty surroundings.
The students further alleged that the staff was using substandard grains and kitchen materials. When the officer sought an explanation from the staff and the warden, they failed to provide satisfactory answers.
Vasantha Kumari said she would submit a detailed report on the episode to the Collector and officials of the tribal welfare department for further action.
