International biomedical conference concludes at Kakatiya Government College
A three-day international conference at Kakatiya Government College, Hanumakonda, brought together global experts to discuss advances in biomedical research, including cancer biology, drug discovery, stem cells and artificial intelligence, emphasising interdisciplinary approaches to global health challenges.
Three-day conference highlights AI and stem cell research for global health
Warangal: A three-day international conference on “Biomedical Research for Global Health: Advances, Opportunities and Challenges” was organised at Kakatiya Government College (A) in hybrid mode from February 19 to 21, 2026.
Hosted by the Department of Zoology, the conference brought together eminent researchers and academicians for deliberations on emerging trends in biomedical science. The keynote address by Prof. Karnam Srinivas Murthy of Virginia Commonwealth University, highlighted the molecular foundations of modern medicine.
Technical sessions covered a wide range of themes, including cancer biology, integrative medicine, infectious disease therapeutics, drug discovery, lifestyle diseases and regenerative medicine, according to a press release issued by the College management on Saturday.
Among the notable presentations were Prof. R. Suresh of Indian Institute of Technology Madras on the hallmarks of cancer; Prof. D. Samba Reddy of Texas A&M University on new drug development pathways; and Prof. A. Uma of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad on functional nutrition strategies.
Speakers also addressed advances in parasitic disease research, cardiovascular therapeutics, metabolic health and biomedical research models.
Prof. Rajendar of National Institute of Nutrition delivered a lecture on genetic factors in mitigating lifestyle diseases. Prof. Shamitha from the Department of Zoology, Kakatiya University, spoke on the role of animal models in biomedical research, while Prof. M. Estari discussed emerging strategies in infectious disease therapeutics, from ethnomedicine to molecular targeting.
On the final day, sessions included a lecture on stem cells for functional tissue regeneration by Prof. A. Satish Babu, a presentation on artificial intelligence in drug design and discovery by Prof. Perugu Syam of National Institute of Technology Warangal, and a talk on metagenomics by Prof. Y. Venkaiah.
Prof. G. Srinivas, Principal of the college, was the president of the conference, while Dr. P. Rohini, Assistant Professor of Zoology, served as convener and organising secretary.
