Adilabad: Irrigation projects including Kaddam, Swarna, Gaddennavagu, Sathnala, Mattadivagu, Kumram Bheem and Gollavagu in the erstwhile Adilabad district received heavy inflows following incessant rains in upstream areas.

The Kaddam Narayana Reddy Project (KNRP) in Kaddam mandal of Nirmal district recorded inflows of 1.55 lakh cusecs while discharging 1.29 lakh cusecs. The water level reached 692 feet against its full reservoir level of 700 feet. Seventeen of the 18 gates were lifted to release surplus water, according to a bulletin issued by irrigation officials at 3 pm.

The project had been receiving inflows throughout the day, with 86,994 cusecs at 10 am, rising to 1.12 lakh cusecs at 11 am and 1.45 lakh cusecs by 2 pm. Officials lifted 17 gates to discharge water downstream as levels rose to 693 feet.

Similarly, Swarna, Gaddennavagu, Sathnala, Mattadivagu, Kumram Bheem and Gollavagu projects across four districts recorded abundant inflows due to rainfall in upstream areas and in Maharashtra. Fishermen and residents in low-lying areas were cautioned in view of the gates being lifted.

Meanwhile, Nirmal Collector Abhilasha Abhinav inspected the Swarna project in Sarangapur mandal. She urged people to remain alert due to heavy rains and asked them to report issues by contacting the control room on 91005 77132.
